Brave new world
Welcome to { PeePew }
A fresh install of WordPress, a sweet little theme, and a cache optimization plugin. What more could any web application developer ask for?
One Word. Traffic.
We'll get to that word shortly, but for now, let's talk about why this is all happening.
{ PeePew } (as we call it) is intended to be dialogue to you, the weary entry-levelĀ web developer on the rise. A collection of the messes one steps into while helping to build this wonderful world we refer to as the internet. The team at { PeePew } sincerely hopes we are reaching out and helping developers who aren't getting the bigger picture elsewhere.
I digress, The reason we are here today is to talk about traffic. Traffic is essential to website success and I'd like to spend some time and ponder with you some ways to increase website traffic.
Organic Google search results
Organic Google search results are key for most people who use the web to find what they are looking for. Odds are, that's how you found {PeePew} since we only exist to those who spawn us from Google or from word of mouth. Are you looking for tips to improve your Google rankings? Geez man... Ok. I can give three quick tips to improve your Google ranking, but that's it... for now.
- Optimize your website by including essential meta tags, canonical links and robots.txt rules.
- No dead-links (404 errors or other unresolvable links) and a sitemap. It's helpful to keep a tidy website so that when the automated indexing programs look at the content of your site they can make theire way through without any hiccups.
- Stop your premature SEO and focus on building better content. Good content is keyword rich and plentiful. Take this article for example.
Go local, go guerrilla (marketing).
Nothing pleases me more than when i hear about some start-up with a good idea on my local news or in my local paper. For whatever purpose your website serves, there is a local audience who probably would benefit from your product/service/idea so get it out there. If you have a company to represent, rally the troops and join in on local events or create some of your own. Most of the time, this can beĀ completely free way to expose your brand or product and most importantly, your website to the public. If that doesn't work, host a sweepstakes on your site with grand prize being a case of beer and a free tatoo of your domain name or logo. Who wouldn't want a { PeePew } tramp stamp?
Paid Services to generate website traffic
There's a ton of them. I won't name names, but rather give you advice on how to go about picking the best options for you. Start with google and get a good feel by searching terms like:
If you are still reading after looking through all those repetitive vendor sites, good. Allow me to break it down for you...
Call or email 10 of those firms and get price quotes that include numbers that let you break it down to cost-per-visitor. This is usually an estimation and, like all other industry numbers, they aren't ever accurate. The process of paying for website traffic can takes weeks and month's to find the right vendor to work with so don't be afraid to try and get things cheaper. You will be dealing with sales reps who work on commission and they can always lower the price for you. If they can't, say thank you and move on to one that can until you find the bet deal. Also, be careful about how much work it an take to get services that integrate with your site up and running. If you don't have the staff to handle that development, stick with referral advertising.
At this point, you've read the whole article and thinking what now? First step: bookmark this site so that you aren't stepping into a { PeePew } of your own. Go ahead and do that, we'll wait.
Until next time!
